This picture is going to be me on judgement day… will it be you?
Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on the day of judgement. The Lord will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their sins. He will crush the arrogance of the proud and humble the pride of the mighty.
The sacrifice the Lord desires is a broken spirit. He will not reject a broken and repentant heart. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally, He will cause justice to be victorious. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honour. He rescues the humble, but He humiliates the proud. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them HIS ways. Though the Lord is great, He cares for the humble, but He keeps His distance from the proud. The Lord supports the humble, but He brings the wicked down into the dust. The Lord mocks the mockers but is gracious to the humble. The humble will see God at work, and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged! For the Lord delights in His people; and He crowns the humble with victory. The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth. Anyone who becomes as humble as a little
child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Those who exalt themselves will
be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
So, always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance
for each other’s faults because of your love. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to
impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honoured
them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will
fade away like a little flower in the field. The hot sun rises and the grass
withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the
same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements.
So, humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He
will lift you up in honour.
The high and lofty one who lives in
eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with
those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of
the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts. For I will
not fight against you forever; I will not always be angry. If I were, all
people would pass away – all the souls I have made.”
